Bonita Springs Florida
Bonita Springs is often referred to as “The Gateway to the Gulf” and is located between Naples and Fort Myers on Southwest
Florida's Gulf coast. The name Bonita Springs actually means “Beautiful Springs.”

The beaches at Bonita Springs are unsurpassed in natural beauty beginning with Wiggins Pass in the south up to Lovers Key to
the northeast. Nationally known Lovers Key is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of southwest Florida and has almost 1
million visitors annually enjoying the boardwalk or tran ride to this secluded beach with natural white sandy dunes and natural
vegetation.

Bonita Springs is a community for those seeking outdoor living in its beautiful year round temperate climate. Residents and
visitors alike have access to swimming, boating, fishing, biking, shelling and many private and public golf courses. For those who
enjoy special attractions, Bonita Springs is the home for the Everglades Wonder Gardens and the Cocohatchee Nature Center.
During your visit to the Everglades Wonder Gardens you will walk the botanical gardens and see many exotic trees, birds, and
animals including the Florida alligator. The Cocohatchee Nature Center offers narrated boat tours through its mangrove estuary
where you will see a large variety of birds as well as dolphins and the Florida manatee.

Bonita Springs is the host for a large number of dining and upscale shopping and boutique options including the newly opened
Coconut Pointe mall with its open walking style.

Just minutes away in nearby Estero, FL is the Germain Arena with its hometown hockey team, The Florida Everblades. Germain
Arena also hosts a variety of events and concerts with many well known performers each season.

Bonita Springs History
Bonita Springs can trace its history back to the late 1800s when a government survey crew camped in the area on the bank of a
local river eventually named the Imperial River. Through the end of the 19th century, Bonita Springs became a farming or
plantation community where land owners began growing pineapples, bananas and other fruits and vegetables.

As more and more moved into this exotic area, the area took on its final name Bonita Springs in 1912. In the 1930's, the
Everglades Wonder Gardens opened as well as the original Shell Factory which eventually relocated to Fort Myers after it was
destroyed in a fire.

Over time, Bonita Springs grew from its humble farming community beginnings to the large residential community it is today
known for its exotic beaches and award winning championship golf courses. In 1999, the unincorporated area known as Bonita
Springs was voted into cityhood.
